James L. Robinson

James Lowry Robinson (born September 17, 1838 in Franklin , Macon County , North Carolina , †  July 11, 1887 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1884 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Carolina.

Career

James Robinson grew up in Franklin. During the first years of the civil war , he served in the state militia, which was subordinate to the Confederation Army. He was wounded in a battle. Since 1863 he ran a goods store in Macon County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1868 and 1875 he was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives , of which he had been president since 1872. From 1876 to 1880 he was a member of the State Senate . In the meantime he held the office of President Pro Tempore there.

In 1880 Robinson was elected lieutenant governor of North Carolina alongside Thomas Jordan Jarvis . He held this office between 1881 and his resignation on October 31, 1884. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. His resignation came after he had made up his mind to run again for the House of Representatives of his state, to which he was then also elected. He was able to exercise his mandate there until 1886. James Robinson died on July 11, 1887 in his hometown of Franklin, where he was also buried.
