Reginald Lee Harris (born September 9, 1890 in Roxboro , Person County , North Carolina , †  October 27, 1959 ) was an American politician . Between 1941 and 1945 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Carolina.

Career

Reginald Harris attended Roxboro Central School and the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington . He then began a career as a private businessman. Between 1941 and 1956 he was President of Roxboro Cotton Mills , for which he had previously worked. At the same time he was also President of the Peoples Bank of Roxboro . At the time of his death, he was serving as chairman of the board of both institutions. He was also involved in other companies in North Carolina. He was also a member of various industry associations. Among other things, he temporarily headed the North Carolina Cotton Manufacturers Association . Harris was a member of the Long Memorial Methodist Church in Roxboro; there he was treasurer and teacher at the Sunday school.

Politically, Harris joined the Democratic Party . In 1927 he was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives. After four re-elections, he was able to complete five consecutive terms there. In 1933 he was President of this Chamber as Speaker . He was also a member of several committees in the state parliament. In 1940 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina at the side of J. Melville Broughton . He held this office between 1941 and 1945. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Harris also attended several Democratic National Conventions as a delegate . He had six children with his wife, Katharine Jones Long. Reginald Harris died on October 27, 1959.
