Dennis A. Wicker (born June 14, 1952 in Sanford , Lee County , North Carolina ) is an American politician . Between 1993 and 2001 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Carolina.

Career

After studying law and being admitted to the bar, Dennis Wicker began working in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1981 and 1993 he was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives . In 1992 he was elected lieutenant governor alongside Jim Hunt . He held this office after a re-election between 1993 and 2001. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . At the same time, he served as chairman of the State Board of Community Colleges , which sets the guidelines for the 58 locations of the North Carolina Community College System . He was also a member of his state's Education Committee and Economic Development Committee. In 2000 he failed in his party's gubernatorial election.

After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor Dennis Wicker practiced again as a lawyer in various law firms. He also worked for several companies, including Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Today, he heads the office of legal and lobbying firm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Raleigh .
