Hoyt Patrick Taylor Junior

Hoyt Patrick "Pat" Taylor Jr. (born April 1, 1924 in Wadesboro , Anson County , North Carolina ; † April 22, 2018 there ) was an American politician . Between 1969 and 1973 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Carolina.

Life

Hoyt Taylor was the son of the same name Hoyt Patrick Taylor (1890-1964), who was also Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina between 1949 and 1953. After studying law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and being admitted to the bar in 1948, he began working in this profession in Wadesboro. He served in the American armed forces during World War II and the Korean War .

Politically, Taylor became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1955 and 1967 he was a member of the House of Representatives from North Carolina , of which he was president since 1965. In 1968 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina at the side of Robert W. Scott . He held this office between 1969 and 1973. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1972 he ran unsuccessfully in his party's gubernatorial election. After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Hoyt Taylor returned to practice as a lawyer.
