Mörrum is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Blekinge län and in the historical province of Blekinge .

location

Mörrum belongs to the municipality of Karlshamn . The place is a good 50 km west of the provincial capital Karlskrona and about seven kilometers northwest of the community center Karlshamn on the Mörrumsån river . The river named after the place flows four kilometers south of Mörrum into the Pukavik Bay of the Baltic Sea and is one of the most famous salmon rivers in Sweden, which is also reflected in the town's coat of arms. Two areas to the west and east of the mouth of the Mörrumsån with a total area of 2740 hectares , which include coastal sections, offshore islands and sea area, have been protected as wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention since 2001 . Mörrum is the second largest place in the municipality after its central place Karlshamn.

The place is on the railway line from Hässleholm to Karlskrona, which was originally a private railway on the section east of Kristianstad , nationalized in 1942 and only converted from Cape gauge to standard gauge in the 1950s . The Öresundståg runs on this route, known today as the Blekinge coastal railway (Blekinge kustbana) , which connects Karlskrona and the other towns on the coast of Blekinge and Ost Schonen with the Öresund region on this branch of its network . The Swedish part of the European route 22 , which has been developed like a motorway and runs along the south-east coast of the country from Trelleborg to Norrköping, passes south of the town .

history

In the place of today's place there was already a church in the 11th century, about which little is known. After several new buildings and renovations, the church, which still exists today, was consecrated in 1847.

According to the municipal ordinance of 1862, Mörrum became the center of a rural community (landskommun) of the Harde Listers härad the following year . In 1952, the neighboring rural community and former city of Elleholm was attached to it. This created a large community (storkommun) , which in turn became part of Karlshamn in 1967.

Today the place is best known for the House of the Salmon (Laxens Hus) , a museum and research center that was inaugurated in 1992 and is dedicated to salmon and salmon fishing.

economy

The most important companies in Mörrum are a plant of the sanitary technology manufacturer Ifö Sanitär and a cellulose factory of Södra Cell AB .

Sports

Mörrum is home to the ice hockey club Mörrums GoIS IK , founded in 1966 , which currently (2010/11) plays in the third-highest Swedish division, Division 1 .
