history
The place, located in a depression, was already settled in prehistoric times . Mühlfeld is one of the few sites in Austria with evidence of the Mesolithic in Austria. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1223. Since the 13th century, Mühlfeld had been the seat of a family of ministers who called themselves “de Muluelde”. After various changes of ownership, the aristocratic seat in the center of the village came to the Altenburg monastery in 1687 . In 1815 a fire destroyed most of the town.
On October 1, 1938, the local and cadastral community Mühlfeld was incorporated into Rosenburg and became independent again on October 10, 1945. In 1950 the area belonging to the municipality of Mühlfeld in the Taffatal along the Kamptalbahn , in which numerous summer resort villas were built, was incorporated into Rosenburg . The scattered settlement of Taffatal , which belongs to Mühlfeld , has only consisted of a few houses near the Raschmühle since then . Since January 1st 1970 the place belongs to the municipality Horn.
