The MBG Group (in Europe also the MBG International Premium Brands group ) with its headquarters in Paderborn is an international distribution company for beverages. The group operating under the umbrella of MBG Holding GmbH sells around 500 different products under fifteen own brands and eight sales brands.

The most important operating company is the subsidiary MBG International Premium Brands GmbH . Well-known brands of the MBG Group include Salitos (beer, tequila and mixed drinks), Scavi & Ray (Prosecco, wine and grappa) and effect (energy drinks).

MBG is represented with its products in 58 countries around the world and, in addition to its Paderborn headquarters, has a sales office in Berlin and branches in Austria, Spain, Denmark and Dubai.

history

In 1993 the banker Andreas W. Herb and his partner Peter Jürgens founded the POS Marketing + Vertrieb GmbH in Paderborn . With a predecessor company, Pader Gastro GmbH , Herb had already gained experience in gastronomy and with the import of beverages in the years before as one of the operators of a club disco called Fabrik . The purpose of the newly founded company was to market international beers and trendy beverages to the catering industry. In 1998 POS Marketing & Vertrieb GmbH changed its name to Miller Brands Germany GmbH (MBG).

History of own brands and sales brands

The first distribution agreement was signed in 1994 for the Sol Mexican Beer brand . In 1995 the company entered into a distribution and marketing cooperation with Miller Brewing Company , which lasted until 2008.

In 2000, MBG took over the Salitos Brewing Company and launched Salitos Tequila Flavored Beer on the German market. The brand was further expanded in the following years with the mixed drinks Salitos Ice and Salitos Ginger Ale (2002), Salitos Mojito and Salitos Cerveza (2007), Salitos Blue (2016) and Salitos Tequila Spirits (2019).

In 2002 MBG launched the energy drink effect . Variants introduced later were effect zero without sugar (2008), effect flavor in four new flavors (2017), effect Massive Guava (2018) and effect Black Açaí (2019). In 2003 the company signed a license and distribution agreement with the manufacturers of the caffeinated water Water Joe , which expired in 2015.

In 2004, MBG launched its own premium vodka, Three Sixty Vodka . In 2011 the brand was sold to the spirits manufacturer Schwarze & Schlichte , with whom a sales partnership for the food retail sector had existed since 2008. As part of a license agreement with Schwarze & Schlichte , the marketing of Three Sixty Vodka to the catering industry was left to MBG until 2019.

In 2005 the MBG brand Scavi & Ray Prosecco started sales. The product range has been expanded with a red sparkling wine ( Scavi & Ray Rosato , 2008), grappa ( Grappa Oro and Grappa Bianca , 2010, Grappa Moscato , 2018), red and white wines ( Il Rosso and Il Bianco , 2010, Scavi & Ray Lambrusco , Scavi & Ray Moscato and Scavi & Ray Al Cioccolata , 2016, six single varietal wines, 2019), non-alcoholic versions of Prosecco , Rosato , Rosso and Bianco (2014), mixed drinks ( Scavi & Ray Sprizzione , 2011, Scavi & Ray Hugo , 2012, Scavi premix cans Hugo, Sprizz, Hibiskus Grapefruit and Passion Fruit Orange, 2019) and non-alcoholic grape juice ( Scavi & Ray White Grape , 2012). The Scavi & Ray products have been offered under the umbrella brand Scavi & Ray Winery since 2009 .

In 2006, MBG took over the exclusive distribution rights for Orangina (until 2011).

From 2009 to 2015, MBG took over the nationwide sales of the premium water brand Perrier on behalf of the brand owner Nestlé Waters . The distribution contract for the herbal lemonade Almdudler of the Austrian Almdudler-Limonade A. & S. Klein GmbH & Co KG also ran from 2009 to 2015 .

In 2011 the company launched the Dos Mas ( party shots ) brand . In the same year, MBG acquired John's Cordial Mixer (bar syrups for flavoring cocktails) and revised the brand's products and appearance. The range has been expanded several times from the original four flavors and currently comprises 43 flavors. Furthermore, this year MBG took over the distribution rights for ganic ( vitamin water ).

The MBG brand Frutinio (citrus lemonades ) was launched in 2012. In 2013 MBG began selling its own brands Goldberg & Sons (bitter lemonades), Sears ( gin ) and Acqua Morelli (mineral water). The Goldberg product line was later expanded to include other non-alcoholic lemonades, soda water (2014) and ready-mixed alcoholic drinks in cans (2017/2018). Also in 2013, MBG acquired a majority stake in the British fruit juice manufacturer The Feel Good Drinks Company Ltd. , London. The stake was sold again after two years; However, until 2019, MBG retained the German distribution rights for the brand's iced teas ( Feel Good Teas ). Also in 2013 was the takeover of E. Eduard Meyer GmbH in Stadthagen, belonging to Schwarze & Schlichte, with the Meyer's Bitter brand , for which MBG had held the distribution rights since 2008. In 2015, MBG launched the Il Santo (Sambuca) and Herb (non-alcoholic beer) brands , took over the worldwide distribution rights for the AquaGym brand (still water containing caffeine) and the distribution rights in Spain and Germany for the tequila brand Cazcabel (until 2019). Cazcabel is a brand of the London-based beverage distributor Proof Drinks Ltd. , with which MBG operated a joint venture between 2015 and 2018.

In 2016, the company took over the distribution rights for the Muli 68 (herbal liqueur) brand (until 2018) and launched a range of snack products (tortilla chips, dips, peanuts, popcorn) and frozen fruit and vegetable mixes for the first time with its own Henderson & Sons brand the preparation of smoothies. This year, MBG continued to acquire the distribution rights for AriZona iced teas from the American Arizona Beverage Company .

With the takeover of the spirits company Schneider & Levi ( SchneiderLevi GmbH , Tholey) in 2017, among other things, the German sales rights to the products Crystal Head Vodka and Dictador (rum and gin) were transferred to MBG.

In 2018 MBG took over a share in Taihiti Ltd. and thus exclusive distribution rights for the range of rums offered by the British company under the Mahiki brand . In the same year, MBG acquired the distribution license for the Silent Pool Gin brand . The company has been selling gin from the Spanish brand Puerto des Indias and the Mermaid Gin from the Isle of Wight Distillery since 2019 . Also in 2019, the MBG brand 9 Mile Vodka was registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office and the vodka was launched on the market. In January 2020, MBG took over the exclusive German distribution rights for the Cutty Sark Blended Scotch Whiskey from the French spirits group La Martiniquaise .

Development of corporate organization and ownership

In 2000 the Warsteiner Brewery Haus Cramer KG took a 50% stake in Miller Brands Germany GmbH . In March 2003, the shareholders Andreas Herb and Peter Jürgens took over the shares of the Warsteiner Brewery in MBG via management buy-out and sold 49.8% of the company on May 1, 2003 to the Krombacher Brauerei Bernhard Schadeberg GmbH & Co KG . On July 29, 2005, Miller Brands Germany GmbH changed its name to today's MBG International Premium Brands GmbH .

In the years 2010 to 2011 the company was restructured; the main features of today's group structure emerged. At the end of 2010, Inventis GmbH , a holding company founded by Herb and Jürgens in 1999, took over the Krombacher Brewery's 49.8 percent stake in MBG International Premium Brands GmbH . The 2008 as a shelf company founded idea Zwei Beteiligungs GmbH in 2010 under the new name MBG Holding GmbH to the parent company of the Group, the MBG International Premium Brands GmbH included as well as its subsidiaries and affiliates.

Locations

In 2008, MBG's headquarters moved to its current location in the Vogel logistics park in Paderborn. In 2014, the group's second logistics center, the “Rampe Süd”, opened in Unterschleißheim near Munich. The Berlin MBG branch was founded in 2019.

In 2008 the subsidiary MBG Middle East was founded in Dubai . The Spanish subsidiary MBG España SLU , based in Marratxí on Mallorca, has existed since 2010 . The Danish subsidiary MBG Nordic APS ( Hørsholm ) was founded in 2015, and the Austrian subsidiary MBG International Premium Brands Austria GmbH in 2019 .

The MBG Group develops, produces and markets energy drinks , lemonades , soft drinks , alcopops , spirits and snacks worldwide as a wholesaler with around 25 subsidiaries and associated companies . The company acts as a provider of special ranges with high growth and earnings potential outside of the mass business of brewing and fountain operations (so-called "trendy drinks"). For production, the group cooperates with 31 beverage filling locations across Europe .

Originally focused on the catering and beverage wholesalers , MBG now also markets its products to the food retail sector and in the convenience sector (petrol station business). The company's more than 60,000 customers in Germany include 40,000 food retailers, 12,000 petrol stations, 10,000 gastronomy customers and 800 beverage wholesalers. In 2018, the group of companies sold more than one million hectoliters of beverages in 58 countries and generated sales of € 200 million with around 250 employees.

MBG currently sells its own Salitos brands . (Lager, mixed beer drinks and tequila), effect (energy drink), Scavi & Ray (prosecco, wine and grappa) and Scavi (mixed drinks) - both brands are managed under the umbrella brand Scavi & Ray Winery , Acqua Morelli (mineral water), AquaGym (mineral water containing caffeine), Goldberg & Sons (bitter lemonades and soda), John's (bar syrup in 43 flavors), Il Santo (Sambuca), Meyer's Bitter (herbal schnapps; brand owner is E. Eduard Meyer GmbH , a company of the MBG Group), Dos Mas (party shots), Sears (gin), Herb (non-alcoholic beer), Ganic (vitamin water; brand owner is Ganic Natural Beverages GmbH , a company of the MBG Group) and Henderson & Sons (snack products and frozen mixtures for smoothies ) and 9 Mile Vodka

The group's sales brands are Mahiki (rum), Dictador (rum and gin), Silent Pool (gin), Puerto des Indias (gin), Mermaid Gin , Crystal Head Vodka , Cutty Sark (blended Scotch whiskey) and AriZona (iced tea).

The Three Sixty Vodka brand, developed and established by MBG and sold until 2019, was in second place in 2018 in terms of sales in the premium segment of the vodka category.

Corporate structure

The MBG Group is a holding company, the parent company of which is MBG Holding GmbH . The management of the group of companies is held by the subsidiary MBG International Premium Brands GmbH , based in Paderborn, which achieved sales of € 72 million in Germany in 2017 and has logistics centers in Paderborn and Unterschleißheim near Munich.

Subsidiaries of MBG International Premium Brands GmbH are Novado GmbH and Event Liner GmbH . The NOVADO GmbH (until 2006 MBG Design & Entertainment GmbH ) focused on the business of promotional items. Event Liner GmbH's task is to plan and organize events for the brands and companies of the group as well as for other customers.

MBG is represented with its brands in 58 countries worldwide. MBG Global Brands GmbH , a sister company of MBG International Premium Brands GmbH , is responsible for worldwide export . There are also active national companies in Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Denmark and Austria.
