The steam locomotives No. 13 and 14 (second occupation) of the Mecklenburg-Pomerania Narrow Gauge Railway AG were built in 1937/1938 by Orenstein & Koppel . After the MPSB was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn , locomotive No. 14 II was given the road number 99 3361 . It is preserved in the United States today.

history

The two locomotives No. 13 II and 14 II were the last of a series of locomotives with a tender that were manufactured for the Mecklenburg-Pomerania narrow-gauge railway . They were manufactured with the numbers 12 894 and 13 200 by Orenstein & Koppel . In contrast to the previous series no. 10 to 12 , these locomotives had a lower wheel set running mass .

After the end of the Second World War , No. 13 II was given to the Soviet Union as a reparation payment . No. 14 II was given the road number 99 3361 after the MPSB was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn on April 1, 1949. The locomotive was in service in Friedland until September 3, 1970 . In May 1972 it was sold to the "Mohun Outdoor Steam Museum" in Novato . The planned construction of a museum route never got underway. Therefore, the locomotive was sold together with other rolling stock to the La Porte County Historical Steam Society in 1987 for use on the Hesston Steam Museum . In the years 1990 to 1998 the locomotive was completely overhauled by the members of the association and is still used in museum operations.

Constructive features

The locomotives had an outer frame. The suspension of the wheel sets is provided by overhead leaf spring packages. The two outer leaf spring packages were connected with a compensating lever . The mass balancing of the wheelsets was carried out with circular segment-shaped mass pieces that were attached to the coupling pin outside the frame.

The long bowl with a bowl center of 1.485 m was relatively high above the frame and offered a clear view. The superheater was of the Schmidt type. Behind the chimney was the Latowski steam burner . The steam dome carried the safety valve. The round sandpit was located between the steam dome and the driver's cab . The first and fourth wheel sets were sanded from the front.

The two-cylinder superheated steam engine with piston valve was arranged horizontally and worked on the third wheel set. The engine had a Heusinger control .

The Deutsche Reichsbahn installed an AEG turbo generator for the electrical lighting. A vapor barrier served as a locomotive brake .
