MTV (Russian MTV: Музыкальное телевидение, German: "MTV-Musiksender") is the Russian branch of the music channel MTV in Russia and the successor states of the Soviet Union .

history

MTV Russia has been broadcasting a special-interest music program comparable to MTV in other countries since 1998. However, the program consists of a very high proportion of domestic-Russian productions (60%), also due to the competition from the channel MUS-TW , which started broadcasting before MTV Russia and successfully placed a heavy weight on Russian productions. MTV Russia has been awarding the Russian Music Award since 2004, based on the concept of the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) .

The permanent availability of music videos on the Internet led over time to a falling audience , and from 2007 the station's program was changed. Reality shows and series have dominated the program ever since, and the broadcasting of music videos and music programs has been pushed into the background and is now limited to a few hours in the morning and in the evening.

In December 2012, Prof Media, who operated MTV Rossija and VH1 Rossija on behalf of Viacom, decided to discontinue MTV Rossija on June 1, 2013 and use the entertainment channel Pyatnica! (Ger. Friday) to replace. However, Viacom stated in May 2013 that the station should resume broadcasting under its own direction in October 2013. On October 1, 2013, MTV Rossija finally started again.

Range

The Russian MTV program is broadcast in 720 cities in Russia , Belarus , Moldova , Kyrgyzstan , Kazakhstan , Ukraine and Armenia . In Russia itself, it can be received in 475 cities. In cities with over 100,000 inhabitants, MTV Russia had a weekly reach of 11.2 percent of the total population in the third quarter of 2006.
