The Maß , also called Maßbach , is an almost nine kilometer long left and southern tributary of the Lauer in Lower Franconia .

geography

course

The Maß rises west of the parish village of Ebertshausen von Üchtelhausen , flows in a north-westerly direction with minor fluctuations and flows into the Lauer in Maßbach .

Catchment area

The 35.7 km² catchment area of the Maß is, in natural terms, part of the Mainfränkische, Platten . Almost from the beginning, the measure limits the northern part of the Hesselbacher Waldland on the left against the southern Grabfeld, which extends on the right bank .

In the catchment area there is predominantly Muschelkalk , initially the Upper Muschelkalk , roughly from the inflow of the stream from the Rinnig the Middle , and last but not least the Lower Muschelkalk at the mouth . The Lettenkeuper ( external formation ) of the Unterseupers, which follows the Upper Muschelkalk in the sequence of deposits, is partly located on the eastern and southern edges of the catchment area . At the layer boundary between Muschelkalk and Keuper there are sometimes faults.

The highest point is on the southern border at a water reservoir on a knoll at the Hoppachshof of Üchtelhausen and reaches 419  m above sea level. NHN .

In turn, the catchment areas of the following neighboring waters are adjacent:

  • A little beyond the northern watershed, the receiving water Lauer der Maß flows westward and therefore receives no significant tributaries from it.
  • In the east lies the drainage area of the large Lauer tributary Geißler , which competes in particular via its left tributaries Sauerquellenbach and Altenmünster Mühlbach .
  • The most prominent southern part of the total watershed in the area is also its most important part hydrologically, behind in the drainage the Wollenbach , the Höllenbach , the Zellergrundbach and the Lauerbach partly over differently named lower courses to the Main around Schweinfurt .
  • In the west, the valley water strives below the Maß zur Lauer, whose outflow, far below the aforementioned tributaries , feeds the Main via the Franconian Saale .
