Manfred Richter (diplomat)

Manfred Richter (born November 21, 1934 in Halle (Saale) ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to the People's Republic of the Congo , Madagascar and Morocco .

Life

Richter, son of a working-class family, learned the trade of machine fitter after attending elementary school (1951). He graduated from the "Walter Ulbricht" Faculty of Workers and Peasants at the Martin Luther University in Halle from 1951 to 1954 and studied political science at the Institute for International Relations in Moscow between 1954 and 1960, where he graduated as a political scientist . From 1960 Richter was employed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA).

In 1962/1963 he was an employee and in 1964/1965 as legation counselor, he was head of the commercial agency in Mali . From 1966 to 1968 he was again an employee of the MfAA, including deputy head of the fourth non-European department ( Africa ). From 1968 to 1970 he was again head of the commercial agency in the Malian capital Bamako as legation councilor . From 1970 to 1973 Richter was envoy and from March 1973 ambassador to Brazzaville . From 1974 to 1980 and from 1982 to 1987 he headed the North and West Africa department at the MfAA. In between he was the successor to Hans-Jürgen Weitz from June 1980 to October 1981 ambassador in Antananarivo . From October 27, 1987 to 1990 he acted as ambassador in Rabat and since March 1, 1988, second accredited in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Richter had been a member of the FDJ since 1949 and a member of the SED since May 1, 1953 .
