Manfred de la Motte

Manfred de la Motte (born January 11, 1935 in Iserlohn , † March 19, 2005 in Villingen-Schwenningen ) was a German exhibition maker and publicist . Between 1961 and 1972 he headed the Haus am Waldsee in Berlin, the Kunstverein Hannover and the Hamburger Kunstverein .

Life

After graduating from high school, Manfred de la Motte studied art history and sinology and Japanese studies at various universities. From 1957 to 1960 he led with Jean-Pierre Wilhelm , the Galerie 22 in the Kaiserstraße 22 in Dusseldorf - Pempelfort . In 1959 de la Motte met the painter Walter Stöhrer . In de la Motte's memoirs it says: “I was very excited, but also very proud. On September 12, 1959, the 1st German Youth Art Prize was awarded in the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden - and I was allowed to speak at the opening of the exhibition - between the museum director and the minister of culture ... From 1961 to 1963 de la Motte headed the house on Waldsee in West Berlin . With his first exhibition, present to 62 , he showed the most important Informel painters of the 1950s, from Mark Tobey , Henri Michaux and Jean Fautrier to Jean Dubuffet , Robert Motherwell , Antonio Saura and Wols . The German painters were Karl Otto Götz , Karl Fred Dahmen , Emil Schumacher and the Berliners Hann Trier , Fred Thieler and Hermann Bachmann . Then de la Motte worked as an exhibition maker in the State Art Gallery in Baden-Baden . From 1969 to 1972 he was director of the Kunstverein Hannover . In April 1972 he took over the management of the Hamburger Kunstverein and left at the end of the year. Günther Gercken became the new chairman. Until his death in 2005, Manfred de la Motte was a lecturer at various universities, freelance exhibition maker and publicist.
