Manuel Bölstler (born April 26, 1983 in Tübingen ) is a former German professional footballer .
Career
At the age of four, Manuel Bölstler began playing soccer at SSV Reutlingen . Ten years later he moved to VfB Stuttgart , where he successfully played his way through the youth and, among other things, was cup winner and runner-up at youth level. In the 2001/02 season he ran for the first time for the second team .
He then moved to the Netherlands for Cambuur Leeuwarden in Friesland . In his first year with the second division , he made 14 appearances as a substitute. In the following season he already had a firm place in the midfield of the Dutch. Towards the end of the season, however, he developed knee problems, which resulted in an operation and a long break. So he was no longer used in the 2004/05 season and finally left Cambuur to return to Germany .
Bölstler joined the southern regional division SV Darmstadt 98 . After a year he moved to the Northern League for Wuppertaler SV . In the three years in the third-highest league he was a regular player at his clubs except for a month-long break due to a capsule injury.
In 2008 Bölstler moved to the champions of the Regionalliga Nord and second division promoted Rot Weiss Ahlen , where he signed a contract until 2010. After three appearances in the second division, however, he suffered another complicated capsule injury that put him out of action for some time. In total, he came to nine second division appearances in the 2008/09 season. On August 27, 2009 he signed a contract with third division club FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . There he immediately got himself a regular place and scored two goals in his 28 games in the 2009/10 season . At the beginning of the next season , however, he left the Erfurt again and joined the second division Arminia Bielefeld . There he was a regular player under coach Christian Ziege , but was transferred to the second team by the new coach Ewald Lienen after his dismissal and a hernia , as he no longer planned with him. As a result of this transfer, the first legal proceedings took place. The question was whether the contract was only valid for the second division or also included the lower leagues. The court decided that Bölstler had to take part in the training of the second team. Later there was a second procedure, since Bölstler no longer had a valid contract after relegation, according to Arminia. However, the court ruled again that the contract also applied to the lower leagues.
After the descent of Arminia after the 2010/11 season in the third division , Bölstler joined the Israeli second division club Hapoel Kfar Saba and was thus the first German professional footballer in Israel . Immediately after preparation, he was also elected the new captain. Furthermore, Bölstler immediately became a regular and for coach Guy Azouri the midfielder was an important key figure, to whom he granted a lot of freedom in the hope that Bölstler could usurp the game. The trainer even talked through every training session, the system and the line-up with Bölstler. In addition, Bölstler observed the opposing clubs again and again in order to be able to prepare his team well for the game. After only a short time, he was called "assistant coach" by the coach and the team. Thus Bölstler became the most important leading player of the relatively young team. Due to his strong appearances in the second division, several first division clubs became aware of him. However, due to the uncertain political situation, he did not want to sign a contract prematurely and returned to Germany for the time being.
In the 2012/13 season , Bölstler was under contract with third division club Karlsruher SC . Due to a torn cruciate ligament , he was not used there, and the contract, which was originally valid until the end of June 2014, was terminated after the season. After the injury-related break, he played the 2013/14 season in the Oberliga Westfalen for FC Gütersloh 2000 . He spent the following season at Westfalia Herne as a playing assistant coach .
Bölstler has been sports director at Wuppertaler SV since the 2015/16 season. In the very first season he rose with Wuppertaler SV from the Oberliga Niederrhein to the Regionalliga West. At the beginning of February 2017 he was elected to the board of Wuppertaler SV and held the post of sports director there until February 26, 2019.
