Marc Jung (artist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marc Jung (born September 23, 1985 in Erfurt ) is a German artist .

Life

Jung grew up in Erfurt and attended the Heinrich-Hertz-Gymnasium there. From 1991 to 2004 he was a wrestler and rose with PSV Erfurt to the 2nd Bundesliga of wrestlers. To compensate for rigorous, disciplined athletes everyday life of a wrestler he worked with the hip-hop -Culture, basketball and especially the spraying of graffiti . After finishing his sports career in 2004, he made street art projects in Erfurt, Berlin and New York (2005/06).

From 2006 to 2012 Jung completed an art degree at the Bauhaus University Weimar . In 2009/10 he went to Daniel Richter at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna for a guest semester and in 2012 received the diploma of fine arts from the Weimar Bauhaus University. He completed his training in 2004 as a master student of Wolfram Adalbert Scheffler at the Dresden University of Fine Arts .

Since then Jung, as a visual artist, has been transforming his experiences from hip-hop culture into the creation of powerful, often radical canvas paintings, in which he consciously uses oil, acrylic and charcoal from traditional painting in addition to neon paints and spray paints from street art.

"The work of Marc Jung is characterized by a struggle between rules and anarchy, between harmony and destruction. His pictorial agenda of a social sweep contains reminiscences of Grosz and Dix , his direct-naive style catapults Basquiat's expression into the here and now. His image structure is deconstructed beyond recognition Bacon and Velasquez. "

In his work, he humorously and ironically takes a stand on political and social issues. His picture titles invite the viewer in a funny way to take a closer look at his works of art, and often give complex hints, for example: "Ritalin Basquiatourette" (composition of Basquiat and Tourette ), "Mit Kippi im Tipi" (meaning Martin Kippenberger ).

Since completing his studies, he has put together over 50 individual and group exhibitions, reflecting on an existential question in life.

Jung lives and works in Erfurt and Berlin. His studios are located in the Erfurt airport and in Berlin-Pankow

Public reception

In 2016, Facebook commissioned Marc Jung to equip their new representative office at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin with a 36 meter long mural . With the photographer Marco Fischer he creates portraits of prominent supporters of the organization Viva con Agua in the project Underwaterlove , the proceeds of which support projects for clean drinking water.

The culture magazine of the Berliner Tagesspiegel then reported in a cover story on his art and headlined "Will he be the next German painter prince ?"

Because of his closeness to hip-hop culture , his work is particularly popular with musicians. Axl Rose from Guns n 'Roses owns his pictures and the band Rammstein asked him about an LP cover.

In April 2019, on behalf of Montblanc , Jung designed a 5 × 8 meter large mixed media work of art on the stage of the Berlin Metropoltheathers on Nollendorfplatz , Neues Schauspielhaus (Berlin-Schöneberg) within one day .
