Marcello Semeraro
Marcello Semeraro (born December 22, 1947 in Monteroni di Lecce , Province of Lecce , Italy ) is Bishop of Albano .
Life
Marcello Semeraro studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminary of the diocese of Lecce and at the regional seminary in Molfetta . On September 8, 1971, he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Lecce . He then worked as sub-rain in the seminary of Lecce and in the regional seminary of Molfetta. He was also episcopal vicar for the laity and the diocesan synod . In 1980 he was at the Pontifical Lateran University for Doctor of theology doctorate . Finally he was a lecturer at various theological faculties and institutes and was finally appointed to the chair of ecclesiology at the Pontifical Lateran University.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Oria on July 25, 1998 . The Archbishop of Lecce, Cosmo Francesco Ruppi , ordained him episcopal on September 29th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Domenico Caliandro , Bishop of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca , and Donato Negro , Bishop of Molfetta-Ruvo-Giovinazzo-Terlizzi . As a motto he chose In Spiritual Seminars . On October 1, 2004, he was appointed Bishop of Albano .
In April 2013, Pope Francis appointed him secretary of the Council of Cardinals , a group of eight cardinals who support the Pope in the direction of the universal Church and prepare changes to the Apostolic Constitution, which regulates the organization of the Curia, Pastor Bonus . On July 13, 2016, he became a member of the Communication Secretariat (today: Dicastery for Communication ) of the Roman Curia .
In 2013, Pope Francis appointed Marcello Semeraro as apostolic administrator ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the Abbey of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata . On April 4, 2016, he was also appointed Pontifical Delegate of the Basilian Order of Italy.
On September 14, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Consultor of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches .
