The Church of the Assumption is a Catholic parish church in Namborn , St. Wendel district , Saarland . She bears the patronage of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

At the site of today's church, a small church built around 1111 stood as a previous building. Inside it housed an altar dedicated to St. Mary .

The plans for today's church were designed by master builder Spalding, who submitted them to the royal government for approval on August 18, 1873. After approval was granted, the foundation stone was laid in 1874 . As early as 1863, architect Mathias Mußweiler submitted a draft for a new building for the Namborn Church, but it was never carried out.

In 1875 the Benedictation took place by Dechant Bougois Denfinator zu Oberkirchen . The solemn consecration took the Trier Bishop Heinrich Feiten before July 5 1889th

On June 20, 2013, lightning strikes in the tower caused the outdated and ailing electrical system to fail. As a result, the electrically operated tower clock and the electrically operated bells no longer work.

architecture

The church building is divided into a tower , to which the nave adjoins, which in turn is adjoined by a five-sided polygonal choir . The nave is a rectangular hall with an open roof and has four window axes with arched windows on both sides . The windows in the choir are also arched. The church tower has a pointed helmet .

In the 1950s and 1960s there was a profound change in terms of the sound substance, with the aim of re-baroque style.
