Maria Antonia of Spain (Spanish: María Antonia Fernanda ) (born November 17, 1729 in Seville , † September 19, 1785 in Moncalieri near Turin ) was an infanta of Spain and queen of Sardinia-Piedmont by marriage .

Life

Maria Antonia was born as the youngest daughter of the Spanish king Philip V and his second wife Elisabetta Farnese in the royal palace Alcázar of Seville . The Treaty of Seville , which ended the Anglo-Spanish War , had been signed a week earlier . Maria Antonia spent her early childhood in her native city before moving to Madrid in 1733 .

On May 31, 1750 she was in Oulx near Turin with Prince Viktor Amadeus of Sardinia-Piedmont, Duke of Aosta and Savoy, who later became King Viktor Amadeus III. married.

Three of her sons succeeded their husband as kings of Sardinia. Two of their daughters were married to France and a third to Saxony, but none of them was to become queen. All three died before their husbands acceded to the throne.

Queen Maria Antonia died on September 19, 1785 in the royal castle of Moncalieri near Turin and was buried in the Basilica di Superga near Turin.
