On October 6, 1802, Maria Antonia was married in Barcelona to the son of King Charles IV of Spain and his wife Maria Luise of Bourbon-Parma , Ferdinand, Prince of Asturias, who later became King Ferdinand VII of Spain .

Marriage with her cousin - the fathers of the bride and groom were brothers - corresponded to a common practice of relatives marrying in high nobility . It was also in the dynastic interests that on the same day Maria Antonia's eldest brother Franz of Naples-Sicily was married to Ferdinand's sister Maria Isabella of Spain .

The princess died of tuberculosis at the age of 21 on May 21, 1806 in the Royal Palace of Aranjuez and had no children as a result of two unfortunate pregnancies. It was to be another 24 years before a viable child, Isabella , was born to the king shortly before his own death .

Infanta Maria Antonia was later buried in the royal tomb in the Monastery of El Escorial in the Pantheon of the Infants. Her grave inscription reads: Whom God loved, He quickly freed him from life.
