Maria Dundakova

Maria Dundakova ( Bulgarian Мария Дундакова , Marija Dundakowa ; * 1939 in Sofia ) is a multimedia Swiss artist of Bulgarian origin. She lives and works in Basel .

Life

After graduating from Sofia University of Fine Arts in 1966 , the following year she took body language training and was art director in documentaries . A scholarship for textile design at the University of Applied Arts in Prague , which she received in 1968, enabled her to participate in exhibitions in Prague, London , Brussels , Hamburg : "Modern Tapistry". This was followed by participation in the "XI. Salon International Paris" the following year, as well as her own exhibitions in Warsaw and Łódź in the Museum of Modern Textile Art between 1970 and 1971. At the same time, she also ran an exhibition in an American bank and the Banque Nationale de Paris together with Sonia Delaunay and won the 2nd prize at the "Salon International de Paris", as well as the "Prix de la ville de Paris" for painting.

This was followed by the "Communication Art" project and the realization of advertising posters (both 1975), as well as street installations and exhibitions in Paris and Aarau the following year.

Her first video work was "Interactive Signs as input of communication" in 1979, which was followed by participation in the "Salon Ecriture, Musée de Luxembourg in Paris. In 1980 she created her first work in the landscape and took part in the Salon de la lettre et du signe, Center d'Art et de Dessin in Paris.
