college

Slender wide receiver Mario Bailey studied at the University of Washington in Seattle . With his college football team , he reached the Rose Bowl in 1991 and 1992 . In 1991 the University of Iowa was defeated 46:34, followed by a 34:14 win over the University of Michigan in 1992 , to which Bailey contributed by gaining 126 yards and two passes to touchdowns in the end zone . In 1991 the Seattle team was declared national champion and Bailey was elected to the All American team. He still holds the college record for most touchdowns caught in a season (18) and most touchdowns in a career (30). Bailey graduated from Seattle with a degree in communications.

Professional career

Bailey was drafted 162nd in the sixth round in 1992 by the Houston Oilers . He received no service time in Houston or with the New York Jets , in whose squad he was in 1993. In 1995 Bailey was signed by the Frankfurt Galaxy , who at that time played in the World League of American Football and were coached by Ernie Stautner . The fast Bailey, who could cover a distance of 40 yards in 4.45 seconds, developed into the team's regular and played in Frankfurt am Main until 2000 . To prevent another World League team from signing Bailey, he was protected so that no other team could sign him. In 1995, Bailey managed to move into World Bowl III with the team led by quarterback Paul Justin . In Amsterdam the Amsterdam Admirals could be defeated with 26:22. Bailey played a major role in the victory: He managed to gain 93 yards with six pass catches.

Jake Delhomme, right

1996 Bailey's team had to admit defeat to the Scottish Claymores in World Bowl IV with 32:27, although Bailey was able to achieve eight passes in this game for a space gain of 104 yards and two touchdowns after a pass by Steve Pelluer . In 1998 the Galaxy reached the World Bowl again , but lost to Rhein Fire at 10:34. In World Bowl VII, Bailey was able to touchdown after a pass from Jake Delhomme in 1999 and the Galaxy won the championship against the Barcelona Dragons 38:24. After the 2000 season, in which Bailey scored 10 touchdowns, he had to end his career in Frankfurt.

Bailey, who was a crowd- pleaser with fans of the Galaxy, held the career records for the most passes caught (252), most touchdowns (35) and the largest total space gain (3805 yards) in until the NFL Europe (NFLE) was dissolved the league.

Bailey joined the Orlando Rage team in 2001, whose XFL league only existed for a year and then stopped playing. From 2001 to 2003 he played three more seasons in the Arena Football League before ending his career.
