Mark Mitera (born October 22, 1987 in Royal Oak , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Montréal Canadiens from the National Hockey League since July 2011 and for their farm team , the Hamilton Bulldogs , in American Hockey League plays.

Career

Mark Mitera began his career as a hockey player in the 2003/04 season in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and played in the junior division of the North American Hockey League , where he came in 43 games to two goals and 13 assists . In the following season he played 16 games and reached eight points scorer. In the 2005/06 season he moved to the University of Michigan . In just under three years, he completed 131 games and scored a total of 54 points. During the 2006 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the first round in 19th position by the Anaheim Ducks . During the 2008/09 season Mitera was initially team captain of the University of Michigan ice hockey team , but was later replaced by Chris Summers .

After Mitera signed a three-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks on March 30, 2009, he was sent to the Iowa Chops in the American Hockey League until the end of the 2008/09 season , in which he reached two points in five missions. The defender began the 2009/10 season with the San Antonio Rampage in the AHL, but was sent to the Bakersfield Condors in the ECHL after just a few games .

After spending the training camp at the Anaheim Ducks in September 2010, Mitera was sent to the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League at the first squad reduction . On July 15, 2011, the Anaheim Ducks transferred him to the Montréal Canadiens in exchange for Mathieu Carle .

International

Mitera represented his home country at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2004 , the U18 Junior World Championship in 2005 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2006 . In the latter two tournaments, the defender also ran on the ice as assistant captain of the US selection. His greatest success was winning the gold medal at the U18 Junior World Championship in 2005.
