history

The previous building in the same place was the Agidius Church, built in 1464, which served as a simultaneous church during the French Reunion in the second half of the 17th century . In 1733 a new nave was built . In the years 1757–59 the church tower and 1786–88 the nave were subjected to restoration . The church was demolished in 1866 due to its dilapidation .

The current church building, built between 1866 and 1867 according to plans by the builder Anton Hurt, was inaugurated on October 14, 1867. The church suffered massive damage during World War II , which was repaired by 1957. In the course of repairing the war damage, the church was also redesigned.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built in the neo-Gothic style from sandstone blocks. It is a hall church with five window axes . There are smaller double-arched windows under the windows. The bell tower with a pointed helmet stands on the west side .

The lead glazing shows Christian symbols and cycles from the life of Jesus . They were designed in 1957 by the painter Probst.

organ

The organ built in 1873 - a work of the company EF Walcker ( Ludwigsburg ) - one of the most valuable organs in Saarland, has a beautiful, carved case . The organ was originally intended for London , as indicated by the imprint "London" on some organ pipes .

In 1958 a renovation was carried out by Lothar Hintz ( Heusweiler ), and in 1985 a partial renovation by the Walcker company ( Kleinblittersdorf ). The instrument has 15 registers distributed over 2 manuals and pedal . The wind chests are mechanical cone chests. The organ is set up on a gallery , with the free-standing console built into the gallery parapet.
