Martina Ratej (born November 2, 1981 in Loče , Slovenske Konjice ) is a Slovenian javelin thrower .
Athletic career
Martina Ratej gained her first international experience in 2000 at the Junior World Championships in Santiago de Chile , where she was eliminated from the qualification with a width of 46.83 m. In 2006 she took part in the European Championships in Gothenburg and in 2008 in the Olympic Games in Beijing , where she missed the final with 55.49 m and 55.30 m respectively. In 2009 she won the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara with 59.08 m and had to admit defeat to the Greek Savva Lika and Zahra Bani from Italy. She also qualified for the first time for the World Championships in Berlin , where she finished eleventh with 57.57 m in the final. In the following year she reached the European Championships in Barcelona and finished sixth there with a throw of 60.99 m, as well as at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea with 61.65 m. At the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012 , she was eliminated with 51.69 m in qualification, but was still able to qualify for the Olympic Games in London , where she finished seventh with 61.62 m in the final .
In 2013 she won the Mediterranean Games in Mersin with 60.28 m and then retired from the qualification at the World Championships in Moscow with 57.95 m. In 2014 she finished sixth at the European Championships in Zurich with a width of 61.58 m, while in 2015 she was eliminated from the qualification at the World Championships in Beijing with 59.76 m . In 2016 she was sixth again at the European Championships in Amsterdam with 60.65 m and was eliminated from the qualification at her third Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with 59.76 m . The following year she reached the finals at the World Championships in London , in which she was ninth with 61.05 m. At the European Athletics Championships 2018 in Berlin, she missed a medal with 61.41 m in fourth place and the following year she reached tenth place in the final with 58.98 m at the World Championships in Doha .
In 2020, Ratej was tested during a follow-up investigation at the 2012 Olympic Games and was subsequently suspended.
Ratej was the Slovenian javelin champion from 2005 to 2014 as well as in 2016 and 2017 as well as 2019.
