Matteo Ferrari (born December 5, 1979 in Aflou , Algeria ) is a former Italian football player . His mother is from Guinea and his father is Italian.

Career

In the club

Born in Algeria , North Africa , the Italian began his career in the youth of SPAL Ferrara . His next club was Inter Milan , where he first played in youth and was brought into the first team from 1996. In January 1998 Ferrari switched to CFC Genoa for half a year . In the 1998/99 season, the right-back played for US Lecce . 1999/2000 it went on to AS Bari . 2000/01 Matteo Ferrari came back to his first professional club Inter Milan. From 2001 to 2004 the Italian was under contract with AC Parma . After a relatively long time with the Parmiggiani , he moved to AS Roma for an undisclosed transfer , in return Damiano Ferronetti moved to Parma. He left Roma just a year later for the 2005/06 season on loan to Liverpool for Everton , with a purchase option of 5.4 million euros to replace the seriously injured Alessandro Pistone . At the end of the season, the Toffees did not take the purchase option. Thus the defender played again at AS Roma from 2006 to 2008, but did not extend his contract and switched to CFC Genoa for the 2008/09 season , where he signed a three-year contract and was a regular in the defense under coach Gian Piero Gasperini .

In July 2009 Ferrari moved to the Turkish club Beşiktaş Istanbul , where he signed a four-year contract.

Since spring 2012 he has been a member of the Montreal Impact from Major League Soccer , where he played with Marco Di Vaio and Alessandro Nesta , among others . In his first season at Impact, Ferrari played 25 times, 23 of which were on the grid. In the 2013 season , Ferrari ran 31 times for Montreal, where he scored his first goal for the Canadians on May 11, 2013 in the game against Real Salt Lake . As in the previous year, Ferrari also played in the CONCACAF Champions League . Also in the 2014 season Ferrari was used as a regular in Montreal's defense; he came to 25 season assignments. In October 2014, Montreal Impact announced that it would not renew its contract, which expired at the end of 2014.
