Klingen is a parish village and district of Aichach in the Aichach-Friedberg district ( Bavaria ).

The district of Klingen also includes the hamlet of Blumenthal with Blumenthal Castle and the deserted areas of Andersbach, Gansbach, Matzenberg and Wilpersberg.

In 2004, Klingen had 1,058 inhabitants and, together with its neighboring towns, is the largest district of Aichach in relation to the urban area.

history

In 1177 the place Chlingen was written. The origin of the place name is unclear. Maybe it means "wild water, pouring stream or gorge". Around 1240 the place was called Machamshoven, probably Fuklingen in the 12th century. In 1417 he was written to Clingen. Klingen has had its name since 1464 in the form that is still valid today. In 1752 the village had 66 properties. In 1818 it became an independent municipality with the neighboring towns of Blumenthal, Andersbach, Gansbach, Matzenberg and Wilpersberg , which in 1840 already had 477 inhabitants. On January 1, 1977, the municipality of Klingen with 867 inhabitants and an area of ​​16.39 km² came to the city of Aichach as part of the municipal reform .
