Maurizio Bonato (* 1953 in Ala / Trento , Italy ) is an Austrian artist .

Life

Maurizio Bonato moved to Austria in 1973. He studied art history at the Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck and was established in 1981 with a dissertation situation of art in South Tyrol in 1945 and relations with the Italian culture Dr. phil. PhD. Maurizio Bonato has been a member of the Tyrolean artist community since 1981 and lives and works as a painter and video artist in Innsbruck .

Maurizio Bonato has been working primarily with painting, photography and video for many years, or interlacing these areas in his work. Maurizio Bonato has worked a lot with spaces in recent years. The sacred space plays an important role, for example in the artistic design of the Holy Spirit Parish Church Telfs-Schlichtling 2000–2002 or the design of the meditation room for the Sisters of Mercy in Innsbruck in 2005, but also during his stay in High Provence. In Maurizio Bonato's work, space is not only meant in its reality as an architectural space, as a building, but is understood as a place of demarcation, but also as a space of possibility. Nonetheless, architectural spaces play an essential role in his work, especially when it comes to terms such as “utopia” or “space of possibility”, because these are the themes Maurizio Bonato addresses when he steals figures from their actual context in order to isolate them on another carrier material , and then devotes himself to them as a fragment of a previous study.

"My work is about dealing with traces and signs in buildings and images that people have left behind in the past, but also about the incomprehensible things that surround people today in their immediate surroundings where they live and work, where ideas, convictions and ideals meet with concrete actions, manifest themselves quietly, take up space and almost take on bodies ”, says Maurizio Bonato (April 2005), (quoted from: Elmar Zorn, Der Künstler-Researcher, December 7th 2006, 3rd version, see: www.mauriziobonato.at, February 9, 2011)

Taking up this space and concretizing thoughts and ideas has a method, as is much in his artistic work. Similar to a sketch artist, he walks through rooms, closed and open, architectural, social and metaphorical with the video camera, often only a camera with the possibility of short film recordings, and records his impressions and the perceived atmospheres. These filmic sketches are documents, depict scenarios or even just short episodes from everyday life. Sometimes there are simulated situations or actions that are then revised in a further step. A fragment becomes the subject for a painting. Deformations are emphasized, blurring is intentional.
