Maxime "Max" Lagacé (born January 12, 1993 in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League since July 2019 and also for their farm team, the Providence Bruins , used in the American Hockey League .

Career

youth

Maxime Lagacé played in his youth for the Blizzard des Séminaire Saint-François, a private school in his home town of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures. In 2010 he was selected in the entry draft of the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ) in 20th position by the PEI Rocket , for which he guarded the goal at the beginning of the 2010/11 season. After a season as a backup behind Evan Mosher , Lagacé rose in his second LHJMQ year to become the first goalkeeper of the team, which, however, played a sportingly disappointing 2011/12 season and was the only team in the league not to qualify for the playoffs. In his personal statistics, this was reflected in only twelve wins from 56 games and an average of 4.51 goals conceded . Then Antoine Bibeau took over in the gate of the Rocket, while Lagacé again mainly acted as a substitute.

As a result, Lagacé was transferred after three years with the Rocket in June 2013 within the league to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles , which in return were Sébastien Lemieux and Zach Beaton. There, however, the Canadian was only used in eight games before he was handed over to the Cataractes de Shawinigan in November 2013 , which sent a vote for the ninth draft round to Cape Breton. After three games in the jersey of the Cataractes, he moved to the Phoenix de Sherbrooke in January 2014 for the same consideration , where he ended his last LHJMQ year with 15 appearances.

NHL

As early as July 2012, Lagacé had signed an entry contract with the Dallas Stars from the National Hockey League (NHL) as a free agent - and without being considered in an NHL Entry Draft . For the 2014/15 season, the goalkeeper switched to their organization, but apart from one assignment, he was unable to establish himself with their farm team , the Texas Stars from the American Hockey League (AHL). As a result, he spent the year instead on loan with the Missouri Mavericks and the Bakersfield Condors in the third-rate ECHL . In the 2015/16 season, Lagacé commuted between the two primary farm teams of the Dallas Stars, the Texas Stars and the Idaho Steelheads from the ECHL, before becoming a permanent fixture in the Stars' AHL squad for the 2016/17 season.

After his expiring contract was extended by one year in summer 2016, this did not happen in summer 2017, so that the goalkeeper joined the newly founded Vegas Golden Knights as a free agent in July 2017 . The Golden Knights also used him for the time being in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves , but after a few games of the season had to complain about the injury-related failures of Marc-André Fleury , Malcolm Subban and Oscar Dansk , so that Lagacé became the nominal fourth goalkeeper of the franchise at the end of October 2017 made his NHL debut. As a result, he completed 14 games in the goal of the Golden Knights before returning to the Wolves in the AHL in mid-December.

After playing only one NHL game in the 2018/19 season, his expiring contract was not extended in the summer of 2019. As a result, Lagacé joined the Boston Bruins in July 2019 as a free agent under a one-year contract .
