Maximilian von Steinsdorf (born January 11, 1852 in Munich ; † November 2, 1919 there ) was a Bavarian major general .

Life

origin

He was a son of the Bavarian Major General Maximilian von Steinsdorf (1808-1889) and his wife Clotilde, née von Adelsheim (1823-1884). The Bavarian Major General Oskar von Steinsdorf (* 1857) was his younger brother.

Military career

Coming from the cadet corps, Steinsdorf was employed as a Junker in the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment of the Bavarian Army in 1869 and was promoted to lieutenant in mid-July 1870 . As such, he took part in the battles near Wörth and Sedan , the bombardment of Bitsch and the siege of Paris in 1870/71 during the war against France .

After the peace treaty, Steinsdorf was active in the 1st foot artillery regiment “Bothmer” and in the 1st Uhlan regiment in 1873 . He then graduated from the War Academy from 1874 to 1877 , which pronounced him qualification for the Higher Adjutantur. As a first lieutenant , he was transferred to the 8th Infantry Regiment in 1881 , where Steinsdorf was promoted to captain and company commander in December 1886 . When he was promoted to major in mid-June 1893, he was transferred to the 15th Infantry Regiment "King Albert of Saxony" in Neuburg an der Donau . Steinsdorf commanded the 1st Battalion until November 1896 and then moved up to the regimental staff as a lieutenant colonel . This was followed by the promotion to colonel on June 20, 1899, a deployment in Amberg as commander of the 6th infantry regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm, King of Prussia" .

After being presented to the army à la suite on January 12, 1902 in his previous uniform , Steinsdorf was appointed commander of the Ulm Federal Fortress on January 30, 1902 . In this position he was promoted to major general on June 8, 1902 . In recognition of his many years of service, Prince Regent Luitpold awarded him the Military Merit Order II in 1904 . He was also the owner of the Red Eagle Order II. Class and the Commander of the Order of the Württemberg Crown . On May 6, 1905 Steindorf was dismissed from his post and the disposition made.

During the First World War , Steinsdorf was used as z. D. officer and served as the commander of the deputy 7th Infantry Brigade in Würzburg until 1916 .

family

Steinsdorf married Anna Freiin Voith von Voithenberg in 1892. The marriage had three children.
