Mega yacht
A mega yacht is a particularly large, ocean-going yacht with luxurious equipment.
Since these ships are exclusively and luxuriously equipped and therefore correspondingly expensive, they serve the " super-rich " for representation and entertainment purposes . The price is based on the rule of thumb “at least 1 million US dollars per meter”. Well-known berths for yachts of this size are z. B. the marinas of Monaco and Antibes on the Côte d'Azur , Puerto Portals on Mallorca , Porto Cervo on the Costa Smeralda or Dubrovnik in Croatia .

In recent years the term mega yacht has become established for yachts with a length over all (Lüa) of more than 60 meters (approx. 200 feet ). Between these and the “normal” yachts with a length of up to 24 meters (80 feet) lie the super yachts . Gigayachts are over 100 meters long. In the English-speaking world, yachts from 80 feet are also called luxury yachts (l uxury yacht ) .
Equipment and crew
Many mega yachts are equipped with swimming pools , whirlpools , saunas , sun decks , helipads , dinghies , jet skis and the latest technology.
The crew of mega yachts consists of professional seamen ( captain , officers , engine and deck personnel). Uniformed service personnel ( stewards ) are also on board as standard . Especially with motor yachts, the number of crew members often exceeds the number of guests.
Shipyards and trade fairs
Manufacturers are shipyards such as Lürssen Yachts , Lloyd Werft, Peters Werft (in cooperation with Kusch Yachts ), Blohm + Voss , Abeking & Rasmussen , Nobiskrug , Ferretti , InRizzardi Group , Cantieri Navali Baglietto , Benetti Yachts , Royal Huisman Yachts , Vitters , Feadship and Oceanco .
German yacht designers such as the Bremen design office Judel / Vrolijk , Beiderbeck Designs GmbH, and the Hamburg-based Frank Neubelt (under the Newcruise label, which has been in existence for over 20 years ), have also won international yacht design awards.
All three design and construction offices are co-founders of the German Yachts Working Group of the German Boat and Shipbuilders Association . Neubelt has been working in the current super and mega yacht market since 2012, with international cooperation strategies that were newly adapted after the global economic crisis, and initiated the independent NC2-German Yacht Project Cooperation Group in Hamburg under the leadership of the owner and shipping merchant Broder Hansen .
Well-known trade fairs for mega and super yachts are: The Monaco Yacht Show , the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and the Düsseldorf International Boat Show with the Superyacht Club .
