My beautiful gift ( international title : Messy Christmas ) is a German Christmas comedy by Vanessa Jopp from 2007. The film is based on the Swedish comedy Tomten är far till alla barnen ( In Bed with Santa ) from 1999.

It's Christmas and Jan and Sara have a happy morning as a loving couple. Sara is married for the fourth time and has brought three children from three marriages into the marriage, Jan is married for the second time and has a son from his first marriage. Without Sara's knowledge, he had himself sterilized because he doesn't want any more children.
In the afternoon, Sara surprises her husband with the message that she has invited all former spouses and their partners to a festive meal on Christmas Eve: her first husband Andi and his wife Rita, her second husband Gunnar, who is now with Jan's first wife Eva is married, and her third husband Erich with his wife Pauline. Jan is not enthusiastic about it, but such a short-term cancellation is no longer possible. In addition to the couple, Isabell, Erich and Pauline's neighbor, also appears. The festival takes the usual course with aperitif and verbal cockfighting.
Jan unintentionally reveals to the men that he has had himself sterilized. When Sara gives a speech shortly afterwards at the table and also reveals that she is expecting a child from Jan, Jan freezes and leaves the banquet table. When he has recovered from his initial shock, he tries to identify the possible father. He is firmly convinced that only one of Sara's three ex-husbands can be considered a father, and he has a conversation with everyone that remains fruitless. When it becomes clear that the only man who has been with Sara was Santa Claus, events roll over.

My beautiful presents were shot from March 28, 2007 to May 10, 2007 in Berlin and Cologne . The film premiered on October 25, 2007 at the Hof International Film Festival and was released in German cinemas on November 22, 2007. By January 2008, the film saw 229,338 visitors.

The critics described my beautiful gift as “bitterly angry, full of sparkling intelligent joke and deep black humor”. Director Vanessa Jopp succeeded in creating a turbulent relationship comedy which, with the central theme of the “modern puzzle family, is an up-to-date compass for the sensitivities in the life and love communities of the 21st century” - “close to the zeitgeist of today's reality relationships, competitive struggles and exuberant emotions collide ”.
