Spain 1492: The Grand Inquisitor Torquemada exercises a bloody reign of terror. He takes a liking to the beautiful and rebellious Maria, has her locked up and interrogated so that she can confess her allegedly practiced witchcraft . Maria's husband Antonio tries to free her, but falls into Torquemada's hands himself. He wants to try out his latest invention on Antonio: an instrument of torture called "Pit and Pendulum".
