Michael Erwin Lang (born November 2, 1949 in Zurich ) is a Swiss publicist , book author , concept designer , television and film maker.

Life

Michael Lang was born the son of the Swiss journalist, trade unionist and social democratic politician Erwin A. Lang (1908–1973) and grew up in Zurich and Wetzikon . He studied history, literature and journalism at the University of Zurich . Since the late 1960s, he has been working as a journalist for print media, primarily in the field of culture. Since the 1970s, he has focused on the medium of film and cinema in particular. He published reviews , essays , portraits and interviews in the cult Zeitgeist magazine Magma and the Swiss media SonntagsZeitung , Schweizer Illustrierte , Weltwoche , Tages Anzeiger , Tele , SonntagsBlick , NZZ am Sonntag and Aargauer Zeitung . In addition, he published dossiers on the life and work of the cineastes Akira Kurosawa , Jacques Rivette and Michelangelo Antonioni in the cultural magazine du , as well as on the acting ensemble in the work of Pedro Almodóvar . He also worked for the Swiss specialist film magazines Zoom and Filmbulletin .

In the early 1980s, Lang worked as a publisher's editor and advertising manager at Orell-Füssli-Buchverlag in Zurich . He is co-author of the illustrated book Stars by the satirical German illustrator Sebastian Krüger and has written several articles in the art book Necronomicon 2 by the Swiss painter Hansruedi Giger . He has also published lengthy essays in catalogs of the Zurich Museum of Design . 1982 was one long for the editorial team of the time as a pirate station called Radio 24 , the first private Swiss radio station, founded by Swiss media pioneer Roger Schawinski . In 1983 Michael Lang was on tour as managing director and press officer with the Swiss variety circus Aladin .

From 1996 to 2000, Lang was a permanent technical expert and editorial staff member of the film-critical program Kinobar on Swiss television . In 1995 he accompanied a design campaign in Europe and the USA as a sports expert for the realization of the Swatch watch collection "Living Legends of the Olympics" ( Marc Spitz , Bob Beamon , Edwin Moses , Katarina Witt , Nadia Comăneci , Sebastian Coe , Daley Thompson , Dan Jansen , Gelindo Bordin and Saïd Aouita ) on the occasion of the Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996 . He was also involved in conceptual design and as a copywriter in media campaigns at the publishing house of the Zürcher Tages Anzeiger .

From 2004 to 2012 he realized the TV series Berg und Geist , which he developed conceptually, for the German-speaking community TV station 3sat together with the Zurich filmmaker and photo artist Beat Kuert and until 2010 with the former director of 3sat Switzerland, Frank Hubrath . By the end of April, 83 portraits had been created. In 2005, the series was awarded the Swiss show business prize "Prix Walo" as the best television program of the year.
