Mikael Dahlberg (born March 6, 1985 in Umeå ) is a Swedish football player . The attacking midfielder and striker , who went through several Swedish youth national teams, debuted in 2009 in the senior team .

Career

Early years

Dahlberg played in his youth at Mariehem SK and IFK Holmsund . In 2001 the people in charge of Svenska Fotbollförbundet became aware of him and in October of that year he made his debut in a 0-1 defeat against the Latvian youth national team in the Swedish U-16 team. At the turn of the year he joined Umeå FC . There the young player made his debut in the men's team of the club, which had been relegated from the second-rate Superettan last year . In Division 2 Norrland , he missed promotion with the club, but was able to attract attention as a regular goalscorer.

In April 2004, thanks to his good performance in the league, Dahlberg was appointed to the Swedish U-21 team by junior selection coach Peter Gerhardsson and made his debut in a 2-0 away win against the Croatian national team when he came on for Björn Runström at half-time . As a result, he established himself within the national team and made himself interesting for other clubs such as Djurgårdens IF , Åtvidabergs FF , AIK or the FC Café Opera .

In Swedish professional football

In the summer of 2004 Dahlberg switched to professional football and joined GIF Sundsvall . For the club, he was used in 13 games in the Allsvenskan in the 2004 season and was on the list of goalscorers three times. Although he ran on in the following season in all 26 games of the season, with four goals this season he could not prevent that as the table penultimate only one relegation place was occupied. Despite receiving several offers from league rivals, he decided to stick with his club.

After he had missed the qualification for the European Championship 2006 under selection coach Tommy Söderberg as third in the group, he only came to one selection game in 2006. The club was also unsuccessful, on the one hand he missed parts of the season due to injury and on the other hand, the team failed as a table eight in the second division season 2006, the direct rise again clearly.

Dahlberg then decided to change clubs. In December 2006 he signed a three-year contract with Djurgårdens IF. After a changeable first season for the Stockholm club in the Allsvenskan, in which he acted as a substitute in eight of his 19 season games, he succeeded in establishing himself in the regular formation in the 2008 season.

Then national coach Lars Lagerbäck nominated Dahlberg for an international trip to the United States at the beginning of 2009. In the 2: 3 defeat of the national team against the US national team on January 24th of that year at the Home Depot Center in Carson , he made his debut in crown the 89th minute of the game with the goal to the final score. In the following season he stayed in 27 league games without scoring and slipped with the club in the relegation battle. As third from bottom he had to compete with the team around players like Mattias Jonson , Christer Youssef and Jan Tauer in the relegation games in which he was used in both duels with Assyriska Föreningen . After a 2-0 defeat in the first leg, the club won the second leg 3-0 after extra time.

Since Dahlberg was not satisfied with his more defensive role at Djurgårdens IF, he moved to Gefle IF in January 2010 within Allsvenskan . Here he established himself straight away as a regular player. At the end of his first season he had to play with the club in the relegation games against GIF Sundsvall , but he prevailed with his team with two wins. If he had not scored a goal in the championship the previous year, he became the club's best internal goalscorer in his second year for Gelfe IF. With ten goals this season, he was instrumental in ensuring that the team around Mattias Hugosson , Daniel Theorin and Jonas Lantto managed to stay relegated early on, in contrast to the 2010 season .
