Minobu ( Jap. 身延町 , Minobu- chō ) is a city (-chō) in the district (-gun) Minami-coma of Japanese prefecture (ken) Yamanashi . In July 2012 the city, with a population density of 45.7 inhabitants per km², had a population of around 13,798.

Minobu is located in the south of Yamanashi Prefecture. The city, dominated by Mount Minobu, is located on the Fuji River . Like neighboring Fujikawaguchiko , the community borders on Motosu Lake .

history

From the Kamakura period , Minobu originally developed into a city as a settlement at the gates of the Kuon-ji Temple. The Kuon-ji is one of the most important temples of the Nichiren-Shū and plays an important role in the history of Nichiren Buddhism . Mount Minobu is considered sacred to many Buddhists.

The later Minobu belonged since ancient times to circle coma of Kai Province . After the Meiji Restoration , Yamanashi Prefecture was established in Kai Province and when the counties were reactivated in 1878, the district was divided into North, Central and South Coma: Since then, the area has been part of South Coma County (Minami-Koma-gun ) . On April 1, 1889 Minobu- mura ( 身延村 ), the village community Minobu, set up and one of the 22 new communities in the district. On January 1, 1933 Minobu received city ​​rights as Minobu-chō . 1955 three neighboring villages ( Shimoyama , Toyooka and Ōkōchi ) were incorporated. On September 13, 2004, the cities of Nakatomi and Shimobe were incorporated.
