Minotaur is a German thrash metal band from Halstenbek that was founded in 1983.

history

Minotaur was founded in 1983. Due to several line-up changes, the release of the first demo recording The Oath of Blood was delayed until 1986. The band worked on other songs and contributed a song for the compilation Teutonic Invasion Part I by Roadrunner Records . They then released their self-financed and self-produced debut album Power of Darkness in 1988. The album was limited to 2,500 pieces. In the 1990s the album was released again on CD.

The band developed a few more songs and reached a contract with the Remedy Records label , where they released Death Metal in October 1990 . This was followed by appearances and tours with Torment , Drifter , Melissa, Procyon, Helstar , Hades , Viper , Rage , Invocator , Vendetta , Uncle Tom Angelripper , Samael , Sabbat , Betrayer , Gorefest , Risk , Riff Raff and Holy Moses . The band took a break in 1992 and reunited in 1993 to record the EP Welcome To… which was released on Molon Lave Records . Drummer Jörg Bock was the only remaining founding member.

Since 2003, the band's old recordings have been re-released via To the Death Records . In addition, the band held a tour of Europe . The band made appearances in Germany, Portugal , Sweden and Spain . In March 2009 the album God May Show You Mercy… We Will Not was released via I Hate Records .

style

Minotaur was founded under the influence of the first demo recordings of Metallica , Anthrax and Possessed , the musicians grew up with then-new American bands such as Slayer , Possessed, Exciter , Dark Angel , Death , Hallows Eve and Anthrax, whose music was linked to the older New Wave of British Heavy Metal resulted in the style of Minotaur. Metalion described the style of The Slaughter Continues in Slayer -Fanzine as difficult to compare with the others, really original and "wild death metal of the painful kind".
