Mitja Šivic began his career as an ice hockey player with HDD Olimpija Ljubljana , for which he made his debut in the Slovene Ice Hockey League in the 1997/98 season and with which he was Slovene champion straight away in his first season in professional ice hockey . After a year at HK Sportina Bled from the Alpine League , the attacker returned to Olimpija Ljubljana, with whom he again won the Slovenian championship title in the following three years. In the 2002/03 season, Šivic was first for THK Tver from the second Russian division, the Wysschaja Liga , on the ice, before returning for the playoffs to Ljubljana, with whom he won the championship for the fourth time in a row.

After another championship Šivic played again in the 2004/05 season in the Wysschaja Liga, in which he was active for Crystal Saratov . He also played four games this season for HK Keramin Minsk from the Belarusian extra league and finally 13 games for Olimpija Ljubljana, for which he played for the fourth time in his career. The center stayed in Ljubljana for two years before the 2007 championship title - his seventh with Ljubljana overall - was signed by the Diables Rouges de Briançon from the French Ligue Magnus . With Briançon, Šivic was runner-up and reached the final of the Coupe de la Ligue .

In the summer of 2008, the long-time Slovenian national player was finally signed by the Brûleurs de Loups de Grenoble , with whom he won the Champions Trophy in 2008 and 2009 and the Coupe de la Ligue in 2009 and 2011. He was also French champion with Grenoble in the 2008/09 season and won the national cup competition, the Coupe de France, with his team this season . After four years in Grenoble, he returned to the Diables Rouges de Briançon in the summer of 2012, with which he won the French Cup in 2013. He then played again for two years in Grenoble and won the league cup again with the Brûleurs de Loups in 2015. Finally, he left his career at the Lyon Hockey Club in the 2015/16 season , where he only made one appearance.
