history
The village is located in the Olsa region (also Teschner Schlesien , Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).
The name of the village is probably derived from the local pond, whose name was mentioned in a document as rybnyk Mnychowy przy Drahomyssli in 1515 . Probably the village was founded in the late 16th century.
Politically, the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , under the feudal rule of the Kingdom of Bohemia , in the Habsburg Monarchy .
After the abolition of patrimonial it formed from 1850 a community in Austrian Silesia , Bielitz district and Schwarzwasser judicial district. In the years 1880 to 1910 the population increased from 821 in 1880 to 1010 in 1910, the majority were Polish-speaking (between 98.3% and 99%), German-speaking (1.2% in 1880) and Czech-speaking (1st , 1% in 1890). In 1910 93.3% were Roman Catholic, 6% Protestant, there were seven Jews.
In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Mnich came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , when it was called Mönnichau .
From 1975 to 1998 Mnich was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
