history

Zarzecze is one of the oldest villages in the Olsa region (also Teschener Silesia , in Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ). Presumably it used to belong to the area that belonged to Lesser Poland until 1177 , like Pszczyna .

The place was first mentioned on May 23, 1223 in a document of the Breslau bishop Lorenz as Zasere , as a village that should pay the tithes of the Premonstratensian women in Rybnik . The name means [the place] behind ( za ) the river ( rzeką , Vistula ).

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Opole-Ratibor (Teschener Kastellanei ) during the period of Polish particularism . The duchy was divided in 1281 after the death of Wladislaus I von Opole . The village finally belonged to the Duchy of Teschen (1290) . Since 1327 consisted suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia and since 1526 it belonged to the Habsburg monarchy .

A Catholic church was built in 1789.

After the abolition of patrimonial it formed from 1850 a community in Austrian Silesia , Bielitz district and Schwarzwasser judicial district. It had an area of 1538 ha. In the years 1880 to 1910, the population increased from 2121 in 1880 to 2529 in 1910, there were predominantly Polish speakers (between 98.6% and 99.6%), German speakers (33 or 1.4% in 1900). In 1910, 99.2% were Roman Catholics, there were 15 Jews and two Protestants.

In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the end of the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Zarzecze came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II when it was called Zarzetsch .

In 1955 it was mostly inundated by the Goczałkowice Reservoir, including the town center with the church.
