history

The Kungsholm off the Galapagos
As Sea Princess in
Venice in 1986
As Mona Lisa

The 1966 in the name Kungsholm baptized ship replaced the predecessor of the same name and was first by the Svenska America lines used based in Gothenburg in transatlantic service between Gothenburg and New York.

In 1975 it was sold to Flagship Cruises based in Hamilton and used as a cruise ship from then on. After a major renovation at the Bremer Vulkan shipyard, it was given the new name Sea Princess . In 1978 the front chimney, which was a dummy, was removed and the rear one rebuilt.

In a further renovation in 1982 at the Vosper shipyard in Southampton , the cabins in particular were completely renewed. In 1995 the ship was named Victoria . After a sale to the Greek shipping company Paris Katsoufis based in Nassau , it was renamed again and was given the name Mona Lisa . It was used by Holiday Cruises until 2006. After this had filed for bankruptcy, the ship was chartered to the Spanish shipping company Pullmantur Cruises , which renamed it Oceanic II and again temporarily passed it on to Louis Hellenic Cruises. In 2007 it was chartered for only a few months to the group The Scholar Ship, who wanted to use it as a floating college.

After several months of odyssey and a thorough renovation, the ship was renamed Mona Lisa again in early 2008 and was used as a cruise ship in the Baltic Sea region under the charter of the German Lord Nelson Seereisen . After the renovation, the ship had 88 inside cabins, 283 outside cabins and 8 suites. During one of the first voyages as the Mona Lisa , the ship ran into a sandbank on May 4, 2008 due to a maneuvering error off the Baltic island of Saaremaa in the Irbenstraße and got stuck. Since all attempts at free towing were initially unsuccessful, the passengers were evacuated by the Latvian coast guard and brought to Ventspils . Three days after the accident, the cruise ship was ready to sail again.

In the summer seasons 2008 and 2009 the ship was used under the charter of Lord Nelson Reisen . It served as a hotel ship in Squamish Harbor during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics .

Due to stricter safety and fire protection regulations of SOLAS , the ship was decommissioned after the end of the summer season 2010 - also under the charter of Lord Nelson Seereisen. An initiative from Sweden tried to bring the ship to Gothenburg as a hotel, restaurant and museum . Once this initiative had failed, the ship was in Piraeus issued and offered for sale. From the end of October 2010, the ship was in Duqm for its new owner, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Engineering (DSME) Oman, as a conference venue and restaurant for a new city, port and shipyard building (Oman Drydock) . From 2011 it was used there as a floating hotel under the name Veronica . The hotel was closed on October 3, 2013.

Finally, the Veronica was sold to Alang ( India ) to be scrapped , left the port of Duqm on November 8, 2015 in the tow of the Italian deep-sea tug Kamarina and was beached at the Alang scrapping yards on November 19, 2015 .
