Monika Pichler (born February 28, 1961 in Hallein , Salzburg ) is an Austrian visual artist and university lecturer .

Life

Pichler studied textiles design with Fritz Riedl at the University for Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz . She took part in the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg and in Malpartida de Cáceres with Wolf Vostell as well as in artist symposia in Peuerbach and Sigharting. In 2006 she attended the International Artists' Symposium in Alexandria , Egypt .

From 1992 to 1993 Pichler received a working grant from the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture . She also worked in the Upper Austrian studios in Paliano and Malo , Italy. Since 1993 she has been working at the Art University Linz . From 1993 to 2000 she was a contract assistant in the textile master class, after which she was a university professor at the Institute for Art and Design / Textile. Since 2009 she has headed the screen printing workshop at the Institute for Fine Arts and Culture, Department of Painting and Graphics.

Pichler is a member of the Linz artist association MAERZ and the Salzburg art association . She lives and works in Linz and Vienna .

During his studies, Pichler turned to screen printing . In her early work, she printed oriental carpets with motifs from current affairs, war and violence. She processes her own photographs, creates digital collages from them and prints mostly in black and white. She often colored the screen prints by hand. The main motifs of her work are impressions that have arisen during her many travels, e. E.g .: roof landscapes, street views, water, animals.

Pichler's works are in the collection of the federal government, the Landesgalerie Linz , Nordico , the state of Salzburg, the Upper Austria Chamber of Labor, the state mental hospital Wagner-Jauregg , the state hospital Vöcklabruck as well as in private collections.
