Moritz Wilhelm Ferdinand Karl von Gillhaußen (born November 12, 1807 in Meiderich near Duisburg , † December 21, 1874 in Coburg ) was a Prussian major general and most recently the commander of the 23rd Infantry Regiment .

Life

origin

His parents were Konrad Friedrich Wilhelm von Gillhaußen (* September 6, 1768 - June 30, 1833) and his wife Charlotte Cornelie Wilhelmine, née d'Ablaing de Gießenburg (* September 7, 1773 - November 17, 1817), widowed Kerckhoff van der Varent. His father was major a. D. and most recently in the 1st Westphalian Landwehr Regiment, as well as holder of the order Pour le Mérite and the Iron Cross 2nd class.

Career

He came to Berlin as a cadet on October 21, 1822 and then joined the 16th Infantry Regiment on April 8, 1825 as a portepeef ensign and was promoted to second lieutenant on January 15, 1829 . He married on May 18, 1837 in Voerde near Dinkslaken Adolphine Dorothea Konradine von Schell (* December 21, 1811 - May 17, 1893), a daughter of Captain Johann Karl Adolf von Schell. The couple had a son, the future captain Benno Wilhelm Julius (* June 24, 1838 - December 8, 1911), who married Charlotte Helene von Witzleben (* July 5, 1844). The major and writer Guido von Gillhaußen was his grandson.
