Moutiers-sous-Argenton is a commune Déléguée in the French community Argentonnay with 579 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (2016: Poitou-Charentes ). The municipality of Moutiers-sous-Argenton belonged to the Arrondissement of Bressuire and the canton of Mauléon (until December 2015: canton of Argenton-les-Vallées ). On January 1, 2016, the Commune nouvelle Argentonnay was formed from the former municipalities of La Chapelle-Gaudin , Argenton-les-Vallées , Le Breuil-sous-Argenton , La Coudre , Moutiers-sous-Argenton and Ulcot .

Moutiers-sous-Argenton is about 14 kilometers northeast of Bressuire . The Argenton River limits the area in the northeast. Moutiers-sous-Argenton is surrounded by the neighboring towns of Massais in the north, Mauzé-Thouarsais in the east, Coulonges-Thouarsais in the southeast, La Chapelle-Gaudin in the south, Mauzé-Thouarsais in the south, Bressuire in the southwest, Argenton-les-Vallées in the west and north-west and Le Breuil-sous-Argenton in the north-west.

Attractions

The Dolmen de la Pierre Levée du Grand Gât (German Dolmen of the raised rock of the Grand Gât ) is a Neolithic megalithic complex in the district of the municipality about one kilometer south of the village.
