The Mozarteum in Salzburg

The Mozart matinees of the Salzburg Festival represent a specific concert format, traditionally take place in the mornings on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays - at 11 a.m. - during the festival and are performed by the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and well-known conductors, vocal and instrumental soloists from all over the world .

The place of performance is the Great Hall of the Mozarteum .

concept

The Mozart matinees in 2017 and 2018 are classic and reduced to the essentials.

As part of the Ouverture spirituelle 2017 at the start of the festival, sacred works by Bruckner and Schubert were juxtaposed with the Ave verum corpus KV 618 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . For the first time a woman conducted a Mozart-Martinee, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla from Lithuania. Her colleagues came from England, Greece, Italy and the Czech Republic. Soloists from Germany, France, Austria, Russia, South Africa and Hungary as well as a choir from Estonia gave guest performances. Under the direction of Giovanni Antonini - in addition to Mozart's Symphony No. 29 and one of his later piano concertos - Schubert's Tragic was performed. Three other programs were reserved exclusively for Mozart. Particular expectations were placed on the concert with the young Greek conductor Constantinos Carydis and the young Russian pianist Yulianna Avdeeva at the end of August, as Carydis' Salzburg Festival debut in 2016 was acclaimed by the audience and the press. The Salzburger Nachrichten even awarded it the rank of a miracle and the headline: "Every note becomes a gem":

“For each piece, Carydis finds a suitable, specific sound aura, develops a wealth of colors that can only emerge if you pay attention to even the smallest nuances, ornaments, phrasing details and take them seriously, thus knowing how to listen to the heart of the works. In this sense the conductor is a brother in the spirit of Kirill Petrenko . "

- Karl Harb : Every note becomes a precious stone, Constantinos Carydis brought the miracle to a Mozart matinee. Salzburger Nachrichten, August 8, 2016

The Mozart Martinees remain , as Karl Harb of the Salzburger Nachrichten puts it, "the secret heart of the Salzburg Festival" in the artistic director Markus Hinterhäuser .
