Mudurnu is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Bolu . The place is about 45 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Bolu .
The district is located in the west of the province. It borders in the north-east on the central district, in the east on the district Seben , in the south on the province of Ankara , in the south-west on the district Göynük , in the west on the province Sakarya and in the north on the province Düzce . The district is crossed by the D-140 highway, which runs from Sakarya in the northwest to Ankara in the southeast. The D-160 branches off to Bolu northwest of Mudurnu.
The river Mudurnu Çayı ( Gallos in ancient times ) flows through the circle in the Mudurnu Ovası plain and flows into the Sakarya in the northwest . To the north of it are the foothills of the Abant Dağları mountain range . In the north of the district lies the Abant Gölü lake in a nature reserve, and the Sülükölü Göl in the far west on the border to Sakarya .
In 2015, the “historic guild town of Mudurnu” was added to the list of proposals for a UNESCO World Heritage Site .
The new housing estate Burj al Babas is located on the outskirts of Mudurnu .
In addition to the district town, the district consists of another Belediye (small town): Taşkesti with 2,245 inhabitants. In addition, there are 70 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 171 inhabitants, Samat is the largest with 403 inhabitants. The population density is less than half the provincial average of 37.5 inhabitants per km².
