The municipality of Achocalla is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Achocalla is one of five Municipios of the Murillo Province and is located in the southwestern part of the province. It borders the province of Ingavi to the west, the province of Aroma to the south, the municipality of Mecapaca to the east, the municipality of La Paz to the northeast , and the municipality of El Alto to the northwest .

The municipality has 20 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is Achocalla with 18,442 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the northern part of the district.

The municipality of Achocalla is located on the edge of the Bolivian Altiplano at an average altitude of 3800  m directly west of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central in the east.

The mean average temperature of the municipality is 10 ° C, the annual precipitation is less than 600 mm. The region has a distinct daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 8 ° C in July and 12 ° C in December. the monthly precipitation is between under 10 mm in the months June to August and over 100 mm in January.
