Cadereyta de Montes is a municipality in the Mexican state of Querétaro . The municipality covers an area of 1351.5 km², making it the largest in the state. In 2010 Cadereyta de Montes had a population of 64,183 inhabitants. The administrative seat and most populous place of the municipality is the eponymous Cadereyta de Montes .
geography
The municipality of Cadereyta de Montes is located in the east of the state of Querétaro at an altitude between 800 m and 3200 m . 44% of it belongs to the physiographic province of the Sierra Volcánica Transversal , 40% to the Sierra Madre Oriental and 16% to the Mesa del Centro ; it lies entirely in the catchment area of the Río Pánuco , as a result of which it drains into the Gulf of Mexico . The predominant rock types are various sedimentary rocks (31.3% limestone , 23.5% limestone lutite , 7.4% sandstone , 5% conglomerates ) with 10.3% basalt , 7.1% andesite , 6.6% tuff and 4 , 8% alluvions . Soil type of 38% of the municipality is the Leptosol , followed by 21% Phaeozem , 14% Vertisol , 10% each Calcisol and Luvisol and 6% Regosol . Just over 50% of the community area is covered by shrubland, around 24% are forested, around 15% are used for arable farming, and 8% are used as pasture land.
The municipality of Cadereyta de Montes borders the municipalities of San Joaquín , Peñamiller , Pinal de Amoles , Tolimán and Ezequiel Montes, as well as the state of Hidalgo .

The 2010 census counted 64,183 people in 14,521 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 1,244 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 1,103 speakers of the Otomí . About 13.3% of the population were illiterate. 22,033 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which a good 71% were men and a good 9% were unemployed. 17.7% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
