The municipality of Calamarca is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Calamarca is one of seven municipalities in the province of Aroma and is located in the northern part of the province. It borders the province of Ingavi to the northwest , the Municipio Collana and the Municipio Colquencha to the west, the Municipio Ayo Ayo to the south, the Province of Loayza to the east, and the province of Murillo to the northeast .

The municipality has 35 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is Calamarca with 1,417 inhabitants in the central part of the municipality. The second largest place in the municipality is San Antonio de Senkata with 1,339 inhabitants.

The municipality of Calamarca is located on the Bolivian Altiplano at an average altitude of 3800  m , between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east.

The mean average temperature of the municipality is 9 ° C (see climate diagram Patacamaya), the annual precipitation is about 600 mm. The region has a distinct daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 7 ° C in July and 11 ° C in December. the monthly precipitation is between less than 10 mm in the months of June and July and close to 100 mm from December to February.
