The municipality of Puerto Rico is a district in the Pando department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Puerto Rico is one of three municipalities in the Manuripi Province and includes its central area. It is bordered to the west by the municipality of Filadelfia , to the south by the municipality of Sena of the province of Madre de Dios , to the east by the municipality of San Pedro , to the northeast by the municipality of Santa Rosa del Abuná of the province of Abuná , and to the northwest by the municipality of Bella Flor the province of Nicolás Suárez .

The municipality extends between about 11 ° 00 'and 11 ° 51' south latitude and 67 ° 00 'and 68 ° 00' west longitude, its expansion from west to east is up to 110 kilometers and from north to south up to 65 kilometers .

The municipality comprises 58 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the country town of Puerto Rico with 2,672 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) on the northern edge of the district. The only other notable town in the municipality is Conquista with 504 inhabitants in the southern part of the district a few kilometers from the Río Madre de Dios .

The municipality of Puerto Rico is located in the Bolivian part of the Amazon basin in the tropical rainy climate of the equatorial zone.
