Messier 30 (also known as NGC 7099 ) is a 7.7 mag bright globular cluster with an angular extent of 12.0 'in the constellation Capricorn . Its total mass is estimated to be around 300,000 solar masses .
The elliptical orbit of M 30 is inclined by about 50 ° to the galactic plane , during its 160 million year orbit around the galactic center it can alternately approach it up to 10,000 light years or move away from it up to 25,000 light years.
The object was discovered on August 3, 1764 by Charles Messier from Paris
