The Nassbach (also spelled Naßbach ), on the upper course of Wasseralmbach , is a brook at the foot of the Schneealpe and Rax in Lower Austria .

Run and landscape

The brook is located in the Schwarzatal near Schwarzau in the mountains , in the alpine part of the industrial district . It forms the Naßbachtal , which stretches between the Rax massif in the south and the Sonnleitstein group in the north, westwards to the Lower Austrian-Styrian border on the Schneealpe.

The stream rises on the Amaiswies (around  1230  m above sea level ) on the Großer Sonnleitstein  ( 1639  m above sea level ), from several source streams that run between the Freinerboden (Kreuzsattel) in the west and the southern Sonnleitstein-Vorklapf Lettingkogel ( 1392  m above sea level ) o. A. ) arise. It then falls steeply to the south from this high valley, where it picks up the other source streams from the (southern) Kreuzsattel . Then it runs along the northwestern foot of the Schneelalp border ridge through the Wasseralm to the east. Here he takes on Wasseralmquelle and Karlalmbach from Amaißbichl . At Hinternaßwald it unites with the Reissbach , which comes to the right of the Rax at the Naßkamm . Up to this point one speaks of Wasseralmbach for the 3 km long upper course .

The brook kinks to the northeast, runs through a ravine, and after another 4 km reaches the town of Naßwald . Here the Schwarzrieglbach flows to the left , which circles the ridge of the Sonnleitstein to the north, and after the village the Preinbach , which comes from the Gscheidlhöhe am Gippel , and then runs between the Hubmerkogel and Fegenbergstock .

At Singerin , 2 km west of Naßwald, the Nassbach flows into the upper Schwarza a little above the Höllental valley .

Hydrography

The entire catchment area is very rich in springs, because on the one hand the Werfen strata and the Grauwackenzone as the base of the limestone Alps are cut here, and because the area is geologically complex and criss-crossed by many faults . Along the lower Nassbach, in particular, there is a fault line over the Kuhschneeberg to the Klostertaler Gscheid , which borders the Wetterstein limestone of the Rax-Schneeberg group to the north.

Therefore, from 1870 the Nassbachtal was developed for the 1st Viennese high spring pipeline of the Viennese water supply . In particular, the Wasseralmquelle and the smaller Sonnleitenquelle, Schiefauerquelle and Lettingquelle at the Wasseralm, the Reisstalquelle and the Schütterlehnenquelle at Hinternaßwald, as well as the Alberiquelle and Überertalquelle towards Naßwald. The high spring pipeline runs along the Naßbach, with several aqueducts to cross the river , and then runs south along the Schwarza to Singerin. The drinking water supply of the Naßwaldtal is also connected. Since 1968 runs under the Schneealpstock the snow Alpine tunnel , with both additional source vessels in the catchment area of the upper Mürz behind the Schneealpe as those at the top even after extensions Salza were opened up in the room Mariazell. In this way, technically and hydrographically, the catchment area of the Leitha is mixed with those of the Mur and Enns as well as the Danube near Vienna.

the Lower Austrian water book gives Nassbach for the entire run ( Lower Austria Atlas online: maps of flowing waters , layer of flowing waters: water network (routes) , accessed March 8, 2018).
